Rock candy is some pretty tasty stuff. Of course, that probably has a lot to do with the fact it’s made from sugar, lots of sugar and nothing else. Or at least that’s how rock candy works in reality – melt some sugar in boiling water and then give it something to crystallize along, a matrix, like a wooden stick. Dralard’s Rock Candy mod for Minecraft adds the sweet, sugary treats to the game. There are five different flavors to discover and craft, each of which bestows some temporary but positive effect on the eater. That’s just the beginning though.
Once you get tired of eating your various rock candies, you can start putting them to work for you in other ways besides as filler for your belly. Every 9 pieces of rock candy can be crafted into a kind of candy ingot, which can in turn be used to make all the armor you’re used to seeing already: helmet, chest plate, leggings and boots. These specially crafted armors don’t give the same beneficial effects as the candy would when consumed, unless you’re wearing a full set. They’re just interesting suits of armor with new looks and graphics. But it’s still nice having multiple uses for the rock candy items in this mod.
Dralard’s Rock Candy mod isn’t the only mod to turn food into ingredients for armor either. It is arguably the sweetest mod to perform this function though. As for cooking up your candy, you don’t just put sugar into a furnace or mix it with water or lava. You actually have to dig up various rock candy ores to get your five basic types of candy, and these appear at very low elevations, so don’t go expecting to see them as soon as you start a new world either. If you want the ores, do you mining at or below y: 45
