The Rediscovered Mod does something unique that few other Minecraft mods do, and that alone is enough to make it stand out from the hundreds or, probably thousands of other mods available for the game. Basically, this mod re-adds to Minecraft any blocks, items or other things which have been removed, unimplemented or otherwise left unused and lost in Minecraft’s files. It’s a thorough mod that covers many aspects of Minecraft, and it manages to make the game more fun and interesting without ruining the vanilla feel of Minecraft. To put it bluntly, this mod just gives you more Minecraft.
While it sounds expansive and all-encompassing, the Rediscovered Mod only implements pieces of Minecraft from the PC version of the game. That means you won’t see any bits of pieces from the Pocket Edition or console versions of the game being implemented by this mod. However, with things like the Sky Dimension included, there is still a lot of content – some of which even veteran Minecraft players have never seen before as it was hidden away for ages in Minecraft’s files and folders. Items like the rotating gears are even like looks into the past, replaced by redstone in this specific case.
It’s actually kind of interesting to know Minecraft might not have become the game we all know it as today. For instance, torches were originally intended to burn out after a time, which would leave players in the dark if they happened to be deep in the ground on a massive mining dig. Lantern items made from glowstone dust and iron ingots were the permanent light sources Notch originally intended to implement in the game. The Rediscovered Mod has many instances like this in it, so if you were looking for a kind of Minecraft museum experience, this will satisfy you.
